Annie Award 2017: Zootopia, Kubo and the Two Strings lead nominations

Nominations for the 44th Annie Awards – recognizing the best in animated filmmaking in television and movies across 36 categories – were announced by the International Animated Film Association on Monday morning, cementing the Oscar-bound trajectories of titles like Zootopia, Kubo and the Two Strings, and Finding Dory.

Disney’s $1 billion worldwide-grosser Zootopia, which features the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman, leads the feature film nominees with 11 total nods, while Laika’s critically-lauded Kubo and the Two Strings follows close behind with 10. Kubo and Fox’s Kung Fu Panda 3 are the only non-Disney title to appear in the Annie Awards’ Best Animated Feature category, as remaining nominees Finding Dory and Moana also hail from the Mouse (via Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, respectively).

Moana, which broke a pre-Thanksgiving box office record last week, earns six total nominations, followed by The Red Turtle, which nabs five. Kung Fu Panda 3 and Trolls (also from Fox), tally four nominations apiece, while Finding Dory and My Life as a Zucchini take three.
